Why do I never seem to get round to updating my website? Here's an update that simplifies things a bit, into galleries mare aligned to projects I've done or am working on.

I underwent my assessment for Licentiateship of the Royal Photographic Society today, and was successful. I have included the panel as a gallery on the website

From today, the maximum number of images we can put on the site is now increased from 120 to 200. In addition, the maximum pixel size goes up from 600 to 800. So, more bigger images soon...

I now have a date for my RPS licentiateship panel assessment - Sunday 22 February 2009 at Focus on Imaging (at the NEC). Watch this space.

Thing is, we've been so busy taking images, we haven't got round to updating the website for ages, so here it is, with loads of new images and a new style.

We've upgraded from the D50 (now three years old) to a D90, and also invested in a Nikon SB600 speedlight flash. Watch this space.

We've joined. No letters after the name (yet) but we are starting to work towards our first distinction (Licentiateship, or LRPS).

We're now qualified! Thanks to Derby University (and Linda) we've gained an AS level in Art & Design (Photography)

We've recently returned from a trip to California, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah. More images in "USA"

We won digital image of the year at Clay Cross Photographic Society with "Ailsa Craig".

I'm now Competition Secretary at Chesterfield Photographic Society.

Our website has had a refresh. You can now use slideshows, and the site is centralised on the page instead of being scrunched up at one side. Much better, and worth renewing our Clikpic subs for, I think.

We spent four weeks during August visiting New York, New England, Canada, Pennsylvania, Washington DC and New Jersey. We've posted some images under New Stuff - USA.

Some images from Orgreave. Also some images from the June 2007 floods. And more derelict buildings, of course.

Well, we have a new computer and superduper new monitor. We've had expeditions to Suffolk, Sussex and Ayrshire. And we haven't had time, until now, to update the website. However, here are twenty-odd new images, in "new stuff" together with a general sort out of everything else.

Birthday treat was a Pentax Optio A20, tiny little compact but with a zoom lens and 10 megapixels, plus lots of other fiddly bits I haven't worked out yet. Good old Jessops. Fits on the belt in a little leather case. Some of the new stuff (Scotland, for instance) was taken with it. We'll see.

It's taken a while (we got back on 17 Feb 07), but in the "new stuff" are some images from the Canaries. Except for one.

We've added some images of a bonfire. We burnt some old paperwork the other day. The results of the photographing of the process were surprising.

We've created a "new stuff" gallery. It's where we'll put stuff recently captured. As we capture more images, the stuff in the new stuff gallery will move to other galleries, or get deleted if we fall out of love with it.

Some recently added images include flooded fields near our home, and fog in the churchyard at St Giles church, Matlock.

If anyone from PAGB finds this web page, they will be interested to know that a photomontage of The car of Doctor Desourteaux, Oradour-Sur-Glane, won a gold ribbon this year. The image was a travesty. The car was photoshopped to a place where it is not in real life; the photomontage was badly done (the car's too big); and whoever did the image has no respect for what happened there. We have now increased the number of images on the site to 120, which will do for now. Managing them and making sure they're in the right place is a bit of a challenge...

We've started adding more images to the galleries, and over the next week or so will be doing a bit of gallery reorganisation. Watch these spaces...

We now have our own domain name: www.geoffhicksphotography.net

After a week of preparation, this website was finally launched on Friday 9 November 2006. All we're waiting for is a domain name (geoffhicksphotography.net) and we're away. Oh, and the links in "Links" don't work yet, but give it time...

We turned up a bit late for the grand fireworks display at the Stand Road recreation ground, Chesterfield. Finding a spot away from the lights and smoke was a bit difficult, but the results were grand. We set the Nikon to manual, F11, with an exposure of 2 to 4 sec, 2 second delay, and just kept pressing the shutter. This was the best.
